This was the Society’s fourth visit to this impressive venue which boasts a luxurious hotel and excellent facilities throughout. Thankfully the weather was kind for much of the event with only a couple of showers showing up on the second day to cool off the late starters.

There were 47 members in attendance which created a fun and friendly atmosphere throughout the meeting.

The golf courses at Carden Park are quite different in character. The Nicklaus course is the newer layout with more water in play. The prettier Cheshire course is a more traditional layout that has a wonderful finishing stretch of holes starting at the par five 14^th. The Cheshire was built on the more undulating and interesting land near the clubhouse. Both courses could be described as well bunkered wooded parkland and contain numerous spectacular holes.

The cups and prizes were presented at Dinner on the second day by GSGB Chairman Robert Hill. There were a number of good scores over the two days with Drew Carmichael (Gog Magog) coming out on top in the men’s competition. Drew won the Handicap Cup with 67 points over the two rounds. Richard Wadkin was Runner-Up with 63 points. The Ladies Handicap Cup was won by Pat Bennett (Reading) with 65 points. Pat impressively retained her title (won at Dale Hill last year) beating Helen Duckett into second place by two points. Richard and Delyse Wadkin won the “Enjoy Golf Together Trophy” with a combined total of 140 points to win the best couple aggregate score over the two days.

The Day 1 winners were Richard Luckes (Gog Magog) and Delyse Wadkin (Sand Moor) and the Day 2 winners were Paul Jackson (Gog Magog) and Fay Dilliway-Parry (Delamere Forest). Jan Carpenter (Gog Magog) won the 9-hole aggregate with Ed Devine coming in as runner-up.
