Tour Report - Gran Canaria, April 2025
For a week at the end of April, 32 of us (30 golfers) visited Gran Canaria for the second GSGB tour, following the same itinerary as the first which had blazed the trail at the end of March.
Tourists arrived on seven different flights and all made it on time (except for two sets of clubs which were 24 hours late!).
We stayed at the vast, but excellently appointed, Lopesan Costa Meloneras hotel and after a welcome dinner on the first evening, the following day we played our first round of golf at Maspalomas.
This was an interesting and enjoyable introduction to the golfing tests to come.
It also appears that the time of year we were on the island counts as the start of the ‘low season’ for golf so the courses were quiet which added to the enjoyment for all.
The next day we played the first of two rounds at the Meloneras. This was another really good course with good greens and some testing carries over ravines and water.
We then had the first of our two days off which some enjoyed by the pool and others went further afield for sightseeing and tapas, whilst others took a wine trip for the usual suspects!
The hotel was well positioned with restaurants on the doorstep at both the front and back so everyone seemed to find something to cater for all tastes.
The penultimate round was at the championship course of Anfi Tauro. Even on arrival it was clear why buggies are compulsory here with elevation changes and some significant distances between greens and tees.
The course was in great condition and the greens were immaculate.
It was an excellent test and everyone seemed to enjoy the experience of playing there.
After another round at Meloneras, some went back there to play again on the last day, and some went to experience the course at Salobre, whilst others enjoyed the last of the sun by the pool.
The last evening was spent with a prize presentation in a local bar (of course, everyone won a prize!) and dinner back at the buffet in the hotel.
The Prizewinners
We were blessed with excellent weather throughout the trip which hopefully has set everyone up for a successful and enjoyable season.
Thank you to all who came on the trip and contributed to making it easy to manage and ensured all enjoyed their time away.
