Bath & Kingsdown, 21st and 22nd August 2024
The Golf Society of Great Britain’s August meeting took place in the South West of England, within the neighbouring counties of Somerset and Wiltshire. The first day took us to the beautiful city of Bath where Bath Golf Club, known to locals as Sham Castle, gave us a warm welcome on what turned out to be a dry but rather cold day. We were particularly grateful to Robert and Linda Hill, our Society Chairman and President, who shared starting duties for us at their home club.
In the evening we enjoyed an excellent dinner with Club Captain Nigel Crichton. Nigel spoke of the success of the club junior section before being presented with a £600 junior donation by GSGB Chairman Robert Hill.
The short journey to Kingsdown Golf Club, just over the border in Wiltshire, threatened rain but thankfully a short downpour was all that arrived throughout the second day.
Both courses were described by members as interesting and attractive courses to play. The Harry Colt designed layout at Bath has a little more in terms of undulation but both are relatively easy to walk.
There were a number of good scores returned from the fifty eight members who competed over two fast running courses.
The King of Morocco Trophy was won by Roger Pike from Came Down with an aggregate score of 70 points beating Nick Bray 69 (East Devon) into second place, narrowly beating Richard Wadkin (Sand Moor) on count back.
The Society Salver was won by Alison Evans (Chelmsford) with 74 points closely followed by Gill Goddard (The Lambourne) with 73 points.
Congratulations to all prize winners, a full list can be seen below.
Our next event will be the September Meeting at Frinton and Ipswich on Sept 18th/19th.
