West Lancashire/Ormskirk Report and Results 24th-25th September 2025
The final meeting of the Society’s 2025 season took place at West Lancashire and Ormskirk golf clubs in the sunny North West of England.
West Lancs is a wonderful old links course dating back to 1873 and a regular venue for the GSGB. Always ranking within the Great Britain & Ireland Top 100, West Lancs is one of a handful of magnificent courses dotted along this stretch of coastline north of Liverpool.
While Ormskirk cannot compete with West Lancs in terms of rankings and history, it is regarded as one of the premier inland courses within the county having hosted many prestigious events including Regional Open qualifying and the Carris Trophy.
September often provides some late summer sunshine and this year was no exception with dry and sunny weather greeting us on both days. Even if the early morning temperatures were a little on the cool side this was perfect weather for our final event of the year in the UK. With hardly a breath of wind to contend with, the first day scoring at West Lancs was extremely good. Although we didn’t get close to equalling our West Lancs record of 15 two’s, we did register 6 and plenty of scores over 36 points. Day Two at Ormskirk delivered many more good scores and perfect playing conditions once again with cloudless skies and warm sunshine throughout the round.
In the evening we were joined by the West Lancs Club Captain, Mr Cian McCaul and his wife Martina who were excellent company at Dinner. Following a superb meal, GSGB Chairman Richard Wadkin presented the Captain with a £600 donation towards the junior section.
48 members competed in this event which was a little lower than our usual turnout but those that made the journey were rewarded with a couple of very enjoyable days.
The Knight Super Senior Salvers, kindly donated by GSGB and Moor Park member Peter Knight, were won by Robin Colbourne from Moor Park with 76 points and Chris McMullen from Gog Magog who scored 62 points.
The Ladies Barlow Seniors Trophy was won by Christine Hinchcliffe from Sand Moor with a very impressive total of 79 points and the Men’s Barlow Trophy was collected by Mark Laycock from Luffenham Heath with 75 points.

The next planned GSGB events are the Autumn Tour to Mauritius in November and the Spring Tour to Scotland during April 2026. We begin next year’s summer programme at Prince’s and Chart Hills on May 18/19th.
