Chairman's Annual Report for 2026

This is my first Annual Report having been elected as your Chairman at the AGM which was held at Little Aston Golf Club on 19 August 2025.

Firstly, I would like to thank all members for supporting the Society over the last year and welcome new members who are just getting to learn what this wonderful Society has to offer.

Inevitably, an Annual Report straddles two playing seasons and therefore my comments reflect that position.

Committee

Your committee has continued to help to steer the Society over the course of the year.

The current committee comprises Linda Hill, who is our President, Robin Moser, who is our Treasurer, and committee members: Pat Bennett, Pete Carpenter, Alison Evans, Heather Williams and Ian Wright.

The committee has met formally in November 2025 and in March and July 2026.

Due to the rotation system which is set in the Rules of the Society, Pat Bennett and Heather Williams will be retiring from the committee at this AGM having both served for six years. Thank you both of you for your wisdom and contribution to the Society and the running of its activities.

We will therefore look forward to welcoming two new members of the committee following elections at the AGM.

The main work of the Society is, of course, dealt with by our Secretary, Brian Ward, who has continued to be a tremendous source of enthusiastic action for the Society for which all members are extremely grateful.

Tours

In November 2025 the Society visited Mauritius on a trip which was enjoyed by everyone thanks to the detailed arrangements made by Pat Bennett who ran the tour.

In April 2026 we enjoyed a tour in Scotland where we were based in Dundee. Ronnie Steedman worked really hard to put together a very strong itinerary which included playing some very well renowned courses in the area.

We can also look forward to tours to Costa Navarino in Greece in October 2026 (the first week which I am leading filled up quickly and we have been able to run a second week thanks to Ian Wright agreeing to lead that trip), to South Africa in January/February 2027 led by Robert Hill and Cyprus in October 2027 led by Robin Moser.

Meetings

Our meetings are now well publicised on the Society’s website which is managed by a small group of members and provides an efficient and very useful tool for publicising the Society to the outside world. I am grateful for their work in keeping the website relevant and up to date.

The website includes reports on our meetings and lists the winners.

The address of the website is: https://golfsocietygb.com

This year’s meetings have started really well with the meetings in Kent (including at Prince’s which is the spiritual home of the Society as it was founded there in 1955) and Cheshire. We look forward to the meetings arranged for Staffordshire, Yorkshire and Suffolk.

The number of members attending meetings appears to be a little lower this year. Hopefully this will not prove to be a trend and we will monitor the position closely.

This only serves to support the desire to increase the membership overall and our members are the best advocates for this with those they feel will enjoy what the Society has to offer.

In the members’ area of the website there are details of the arrangements which the Society has with Glenmuir for GSGB embroidered clothing which always looks smart and which members are encouraged to consider.

New Participating Club

We were delighted to receive a request from Royal Ashdown Forest Golf Club to become one of the Society’s Participating Clubs.

This is a mark of the regard in which the Society is held and a great addition to the list of Participating Clubs for us to visit and where members of the Society can benefit from discounted green fees.

Supporting Junior Golf

At each of our meetings during the season, when we visit a Participating Club, we make a donation for the benefit of the junior section of that club.

This is part of a longstanding tradition of the Society, and we have also continued our support this year of the Laddie Lucas Spoon at Prince’s Golf Club and the Wessex Masters at Bath Golf Club, both of which are competitions for young golfers.

Finance

With thanks for the work undertaken by our Treasurer, Robin Moser, the accounts for the year to 28 February 2026 have been finalised. A full copy of the accounts can be seen in the documents section of the members’ area of the website.

The headline comments on the accounts are that they show a profit, after tax, of £188 which brings the Society’s reserves up to £24,198.

I hope everyone continues to enjoy the rest of this season and the tours.

Best wishes

Richard
