Trentham & Brocton Hall 22nd and 23rd July (during which the 2026 GSGB AGM was held)

The Golf Society of Great Britain’s 2026 AGM event was held at Trentham GC and Brocton Hall GC in Staffordshire with the AGM taking place before dinner at Trentham. Sixty seven members enjoyed perfect weather over the two days with the high temperatures of the previous weeks thankfully falling to something much more bearable.

After the long dry spell both golf courses played hard and fast as expected but were in lovelycondition with excellent greens at both venues.

Built in 1894 and later re-designed by Harry Colt and Hugh Alison, Trentham’s parkland layout is regarded as one of Staffordshire’s finest courses, often being used for Regional Open Qualifying as well as numerous County events.

Trentham Captain Richard Rae joined us at dinner and spoke of the recent success of a number of fine players coming from club’s junior section. GSGB Chairman Richard Wadkin presented Richard with a cheque for £500 to further junior golf at Trentham.

The next morning saw the society make the fairly short journey south to play at Brocton Hall (near Stafford) for the first time. Designed by six-time Open Champion Harry Vardon in 1923, Brocton is a picturesque tree lined parkland course with numerous water hazards in play.

There were a handful of excellent scores over the two days, particularly at Brocton Hall. Peter Moore (Bath) was victorious in the men’s competition winning the Handicap Cup with 68 points over the two rounds. Steve Coventry (The Burstead), also with 68 points was pipped at the post by Peter who had the better card on the second day.

The Ladies Handicap Cup was won by Celia Edwards (Northamptonshire County) with an excellent score of 73 points narrowly beating Delyse Wadkin (Sand Moor) with 72 points. Peter and Sandie Moore won the “Enjoy Golf Together Trophy” with a combined total of 137 points to win the best couple aggregate score over the two days.

The Day 1 winners were Ian Edwards (Woburn) and Sandie Moore (Bath) and the Day 2 winners were David Storer (Alwoodley) and Christine Hinchcliffe (Sand Moor).

A full list of the all prize winners can be seen below.

Our next Meeting will take place at Huddersfield/Woodsome Hall on August 20th/21st.
