Huddersfield & Woodsome Hall August 20th & 21st, 2026

The Golf Society of Great Britain’s August meeting was held at Huddersfield GC (Fixby Hall) and Woodsome Hall GC, two of Yorkshire’s finest courses. Both clubs are also rightly proud of their very impressive old clubhouses.

With the extreme heat of recent weeks well and truly behind us, we arrived at Huddersfield only to find flooded greens and a closed golf course after a night of heavy rain. Fortunately the rain soon moved away and the 38 members in attendance were able to tee-off on time. The course is fairly hilly in places but beautifully bunkered with lots of memorable holes, particularly on the back 9. For many this was their first visit to Huddersfield GC and despite the occasional afternoon shower everyone thoroughly enjoyed playing this excellent 1879 Herbert Fowler design.

At dinner we enjoyed the excellent company of Club Captain Mr Stuart Henbest and his wife Charlotte. Stuart was a previous junior organizer at Huddersfield where a number of good players have been developed over the years including their son who has progressed to college golf in the USA. After speaking, Stuart was presented with a £500 donation to junior golf and the GSGB wall shield by Chairman Mr Richard Wadkin. The wall shield marks our first visit to Huddersfield since they joined our ranks as a participating club.

The next morning we made a short and thankfully dry journey to Woodsome Hall Golf Club. Again, this was a first visit to Woodsome Hall for the GSGB which is an attractive and undulating Harry Colt course designed in 1922. To the relief of everyone the weather was kind to us and our members enjoyed a glorious sunny day.

Despite the mixed weather, the firm and fast conditions led to some impressive scoring by a number of the members particularly in the rain on Day 1.

The King of Morocco Trophy was won by Subash Lad (Silkstone) with an aggregate score of 73 points, beating Neil Gray (Coxmoor) who had 69 points into second place. This was a first experience of GSGB golf for both Subash and Neil.

The Society Salver was won by Alison Evans (Chelmsford) with 73 points followed by Gillian Curley (Stratford on Avon) with 69 points.

Congratulations to all prize winners. A full list can be seen below.

Our final UK event in 2026 will be at Aldeburgh/Woodbridge on September 21st/22nd where we have our full allocation of 68 players in attendance.
