Our August AGM Meeting takes us to Monmouthshire.
Designed by the leading architect Ken Cotton in the early 1960’s, the Ross on Wye Golf Club is one of the finest courses in the South West Midlands. Nestling in the wooded hills above the Wye Valley between Ross on Wye, Ledbury and Newent, the rolling fairways lined with mature stands of trees mean that accuracy and course management are at a premium rather than just length from the tee. The beautiful Herefordshire countryside makes this a relaxing, friendly and picturesque place to play golf in any season and we regard it as something of a hidden gem.
The Society last visited this beautiful course in 2018. The course is set in superb rolling countryside with spectacular views of the Welsh hills and is one of the most picturesque courses in all of Wales. A popular venue with GSGB members and well known for fast and undulating greens, this is a fairly modern parkland design which first opened for play in 1982. The course has numerous ponds and streams to contend with and the views of the magnificent building are simply stunning from the elevated parts of the course. The building, part of which forms the clubhouse, was once home to Henry Rolls who was most famous for his connection to Rolls-Royce cars.
