We visit Staffordshire to play Trentham and for the first time Brocton Hall.
Founded in 1894, Trentham is one of Staffordshire’s oldest and most respected clubs. Course architects including Colt, Alison, Braid and Pennink have all made changes to the original parkland layout. Feature holes include doglegging short par fours at the 3rd and 11th, both of which play to heavily bunkered greens. The 6th is a superb long par five, with threatening bunkers running diagonally across its fairway, whilst the 14th is another fabulous par five, bending left to an inviting green. Trentham measures 6,641 yards from the medal tees, playing to a par of 72 and has been used for Regional Open Qualifying.
The Society makes its first ever visit to Brocton Hall in July, a fine parkland course located close to Cannock Chase. The course was designed by six times Open Champion Harry Vardon in 1923 and although not as long as many modern courses, still provides a solid test. Measuring just over 6000 yards from the White tees, Brocton has a par of 69 for the Men and 73 for Ladies. The course is nicely routed through well bunkered, tree lined fairways and offers a number of memorable holes. Two holes that stand out are par-3’s, with both the 9th and 17th playing over water to beautifully located greens.
