The 2023 Golf Society of Great Britain AGM was held at Dale Hill, East Sussex on 18th/19th July.
This was the society’s first visit to this relatively modern 36 hole venue. The record breaking temperatures seen in Durham at the 2022 meeting were nowhere to be seen this year, thankfully, and despite rain falling throughout much of the UK, the weather was very kind with temperatures in the low twenties and virtually no rain to contend with. Unlike the other four events this summer numbers were a little lighter with forty eight members in attendance.
The golf courses at Dale Hill are both quite undulating but the Woosnam Course is the more difficult and considerably longer of the two courses. Both courses could be described as wooded parkland and contain a number of spectacular par-3’s as well as providing excellent putting surfaces throughout the event. The hotel offers comfortable, spacious rooms and good facilities.
The cups and prizes were presented at dinner on the second day by GSGB Chairman Robert Hill. There were a number of good scores over the two days with Doug Carrington (Warley Park) proving to be the most consistent player in the men’s competition. Doug won the Handicap Cup with 73 points over the two rounds. Ian Macleod was Runner-Up with 69 points. The Ladies Handicap Cup was won by Pat Bennett (Reading) with 69 points. Pat, who is no stranger to the winner’s circle, narrowly beat Kim Sparks into second place by two points. Doug & Kim, with a combined points total of 140, claimed the “Enjoy Golf Together Trophy” by compiling the best partnership aggregate score over the two days.
The Day 1 winners were Shyam Singh (Gog Magog) and Tricia Summers (Saffron Walden) and the Day 2 winners were Ronnie Steedman (Archerfield Links) and Jan Carpenter (Gog Magog).

The 2024 AGM will return to Carden Park in Cheshire.
Our next Meeting will take place at Blackmoor/North Hants on August 21st/22nd.
