Tour Report - Mauritius, November 2025
25 of our 26 members arrived on schedule in Mauritius from various parts of the UK on different flights and airlines. The exception was the inexplicable delay for one who had been “bumped off” the original flight, but managed to arrive the following day, still smiling.
We stayed at the 5-star hotel of Belle Mare Plage which has 2 golf courses, one within an easy walking distance – The Legend course, aptly named as it has hosted the Legends Tour, and the Links course, a short ride away. The hotel has 5 restaurants, with one serving buffet style food, with the largest selection of food you could wish for.
The service for the golf was exceptional, with all buggies with our names and tee times posted on the windscreen, although the caddy master did try to locate the golf bags of our ghost players (Ann Boleyn and Julian Fawcett (MP) – as the fourth player).
The Legends course turned out to be challenging for the short hitters, over ravines and waste land, but all were allowed to choose which tee to play from. Fortunately, there were many people around selling bags of almost new golf balls. In fact, having heard that one person in another group had lost 21 balls in one round, a new competition was instituted to award a prize. Of the 6 players who lost the least number of balls only 1 was a male, but they received a ProV1 for their sterling efforts, whilst the remainder had the multi-coloured second-hand balls.
Some of us had an additional round of golf at the Isle Aux Cerfs, arriving by boat was most unusual.
A day trip to the south of the island proved an enjoyable additional day out, even for those who tasted the rum that is made on the island.
There was one notable incident whilst golfing – Richard Wadkin was seen driving his buggy backwards for a few holes – we mostly assumed he was just enjoying the experience but it turned out that the buggy would not go forward, so hence his backward return at speed to the clubhouse.
For the last evening, we dined in a separate dining room at the Legends course with a specially designed menu, although some of us chose to eat from their standard menu.
The overall winners were Debbie Holmes and Ian Wright. But of course we were all winners and suitably rewarded.
Many thanks to all who joined in and made the trip so enjoyable for all of us.
