Tour Report - Scotland, April 2026

A golf tour for a week in Scotland at the end of April. What could go wrong? Answer – nothing!

The big question was, would the weather be kind to us, and it certainly was.

Apart from a very chilly back nine on the second day, we had bright days and no rain!

Twenty-seven of us met for a welcome dinner in the Malmaison Hotel in Dundee which was our base for the week.

Dundee, it seems, is famous for three Js, Jam, Jute and Journalism, and was where the Beano and Dandy comics were created – hence the picture of Dennis the Menace hanging over the beds in the hotel!

The first round we played was on the Rosemount Course at Blairgowrie Golf Club which is a lovely inland course.

With some impressive wildlife.

The second day we were at Panmure Golf Club which is a strong links course where the ‘visitor experience’ included personalised bag tags for everyone and photos of each playing group.

Some of the pin placements proved challenging and the cold wind for the second half of the round meant that the clubhouse and complimentary ‘Kumul’ drink were very welcome.

Our days off on Wednesday and Saturday gave some an opportunity to visit St Andrews or the sights in Dundee, such as Captain Scott’s ship the RRS Discovery and the V&A Dundee. Others just played more golf. In the case of Doug Carrington, he visited his ancestor’s club at Forfar and found memorable pictures for his family archive.

Our third round was at Monifieth Golf Links to play the Medal Course where we encountered what appears to be a common theme in some parts of Scotland, with a number of golf clubs using the same course. Some members of the group took up the challenge to patronise all three of the clubhouses!

Our last round was at Montrose Golf Club on the 1562 course, which claims to be the fifth oldest golf course in the world.

The early holes run right along the cliff edge, with coastal erosion very evident and leading to some challenging carries!

The ‘champion golfers’ of the week were Ruth Lindley and Stephen Guest but everyone received mementos of the week at the farewell dinner on our last night.

Everyone enjoyed the trip made all the better by very benign weather conditions and a great group of people.

Thank you to all who came on the trip and contributed to making it easy to manage and ensured everyone enjoyed their time away.

Thanks also to Ronnie Steedman for all of his work in setting up the arrangements for the tour.
